Roles and responsibilities

The Business Operations Owner differs from that of the Service Owner and (technical) Delivery Owner whose focus is the support and maintenance of the underlying service technology.

The Business Operations Owner is likely to report into the Business Owner. They may be the manager of a team who deliver business processes and support either enterprise wide or for a division or faculty. They and their teams have strong functional knowledge of the service.

Typically, a ‘Head of’ or Senior Manager for enterprise systems.

Responsible for:

  • Providing business resources for UAT and communicating with key stakeholders to support system changes
  • Supporting Business Owner in identifying and mitigating Cyber Security risks
  • Provision of end user support, training and documentation
  • Managing business resources that contribute to the delivery of the service and/or system
  • Supporting the Service Owner and Delivery Owner where necessary to resolve incidents
  • Management and compliance of data in line with UNSW Data Governance Policies and Standards
  • Supporting preventative maintenance by providing business resources for UAT and communicating with stakeholders
  • Identifying and assessing service risks and associated actions plans
  • Supporting Service Owner where necessary in the application of critical patches
  • Creation of Business Continuity Plan
  • Annual review of user access, ensuring the principle of least privilege
  • Providing business requirements for the Service Lifecycle and roadmap as well as vendor and contract management
