Mr Loc Nguyen
Loc Nguyen is a Data Scientist at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) within the School of Population Health, specialising in natural language processing (NLP) and large language models (LLMs) for real-world healthcare applications.
He currently leads the development and evaluation of AI systems for automated ICD-11 external cause coding as part of the National Injury Surveillance for Actionable Research – Emergency Department (NISAR-ED) project. His work focuses on transforming unstructured clinical text into high-quality, structured data to support national injury surveillance and evidence-based policy.
Loc has prior experience in developing explainable AI models and data systems for environmental and biological applications at the Climate Change Cluster (UTS). His research interests lie in explainable AI, multimodal machine learning, and the deployment of scalable, trustworthy AI systems in healthcare and sustainability domains.
