Meet Thomas Cobbinah
Agronomist and Molecular Geneticist
About Thomas
Thomas loves plants, and he’s turned that love into his job! He’s a plant scientist who studies tiny hairs on plants. These hairs are so small you need a microscope to see them, but they can make amazing things, like natural medicines.
Thomas works with a team trying to figure out how to help astronauts grow in space. Imagine growing tomatoes on a spaceship that can make vitamins or medicine. Thomas is helping make that possible!
Thomas grew up in Ghana in Africa. He’s travelled to lots of countries to learn more about plants. Thomas is now studying at University in Melbourne where he uses super‑cool tools. He wants to know how plants decide what kinds of cells to grow.
Thomas wants everyone to know that plants are more powerful than they look. His advice? Stay curious. You never know where questions can take you.

“I take cool science discoveries about plants and turn them into real ways to grow more food. It makes me happy because I’m helping farmers grow enough food for everyone, now and in the future.”
