The School of Biomedical Sciences
Pioneering Biomedical Research
We have expertise that ranges from diabetes, cardiovascular and cancer, infection, hearing loss, genetic diseases and pain as well as a community of fundamental researchers exploring the fabric of life. This short video gives a snapshot of some of these efforts and what drives us as pioneers in biomedical research, hoping to make a difference to human medicine & health.
Passionate about Biomedical Teaching
Our passionate teachers aim to inspire undergraduate and postgraduate students and given them the tools and drive to pursue a diversity of careers, whether it’s in biomedical research, a pathway to industry, science teaching, clinical medicine or as a health professional. If you have an interest in any of our core majors (Anatomy, Pathology, Physiology, Pharmacology, Neuroscience or Immunology), our academics are ready to inspire you on a life long journey understanding the human body, how it goes wrong in disease and how we can fix it.
Study Biophysics at UNSW
Biophysics is one of 6 research pillars in the School of Biomedical Sciences, and their researchers are investigating key areas of mechanobiology and single molecule biophysics that have the potential to transform medicine and human resilience in extreme environments. Driven by a passion for discovery, the School of Biomedical Sciences at UNSW are asking the biggest questions, starting from the smallest scale. Through clever development of powerful experimental tools, building collaborative networks and using cutting edge instrumentation, they study how tiny molecular force sensors can not only control cancer cell behaviour but also regulate the impact of changes in gravity on our biology; how the behaviour of a single signalling molecule can lead to different physiological outcomes; developing cutting edge imaging techniques and how physics can inform our understanding of biology. The School of Biomedical Sciences at UNSW shares a commitment to a culture of inclusion for their diverse community and to excellence in research and teaching. With their new Biophysics major starting in 2027, they will be extending their biophysics community to include undergraduate students, to provide them with an education in cutting edge biophysics.
